January 1st, New Years Day Monday
Happy New Year! Well, it's not so happy for me- my owner has decided to put me up for sale and on the third of this month, someone is coming to see me. If I am sold, (hopefully not though!) I just hope my new owner will be just as nice or nicer as my current owner: ride me daily, feed me at feeding time, groom me daily, etc. Got to go, here comes Steve (my owner) with my tack, time for a ride!!
January 3rd Wednesday
Today my new owners came to take a look at me. Yes. My new owners. I've been sold. They're coming to pick me up on Saturday. I was munching on my mid-day hay, when Steve led two people up to my stall. A taller one, with short, hay colored hair and a shorter one, who seemed to be in her teens, with long, curly hair that looked like the coat of a bay Bashkir Curly. Anyways, they came up to my stall and the teenaged girl piped up, "Oh Mom, isn't she beautiful?!" I am beautiful indeed. I'm a purebred chestbut Thoroughbred, with a star on my forehead and four white socks. My groom had groomed me today like I was going to one of my dressage shows, so I was more beautiful than usual, at least, that's what one stallion said as he passed my stall earlier. Oh yeah, the story. Where was I? Oh yes, her mother too, thought I was beautiful. Steve took me out of my stall and I stood up straighter than usual when he cross-tied me in the barn aisle. Taylor, (Found out she's the mother) ran her hands over my legs and other parts of me to check my conformation while Abby, (Found out that's the name of the teenaged girl) stood at my head and stroked me. She offered me her hand to smell, which, I gladly did, before she stroked me. When Taylor was done and declared I had excellent conformation, she asked Steve, "Can Abby test her?" Steve nodded and went to fetch my tack. While he was gone, Abby talked to Taylor about my future at their stable, Silver Creek Stables. Abby asked about using me as a jumper, which I'm happy to hear, I've ALWAYS wanted to be a jumper, ever since I was a tiny foal. Steve returned with my tack, my pink saddlepad, an all-purpose saddle, (for hacks) and my snaffle bridle. He put them on me and led me by the reins to the farm's outdoor riding ring. Steve gave Abby a boost into my saddle. Abby started off by walking me around the ring. She guided me with soft hands and legs, and sat in the saddle so I would be comfortable. She put me through my paces and even jumped me over a few small crossrails. Abby pulled me to a stop and dismounted. The look on her face was enough to make me happy too, but I wasn't happy because I just had a feeling I'd just been sold.
January 4th Thursday
I was right. Yesterday when Abby was done riding me and I was put away, Taylor wrote a check for two thousand dollars. They're coming to pick me up on Saturday morning. I'm really going to miss this place: the humans, and all my horse friends.
January 5th Last Day at Rainbow Ranch Friday
Today Steve and his wife Chrissa took me and my friend Chica on a final ride. We rode on my favorite trail. It started off in the forest, then there was this huge clearing with a pond and green grass perfect for grazing. When we got back at the farm it was late afternoon, so Steve turned me and Chica out into a pastur with some of the other Thoroughbreds from my barn. Chica, Midnight, (A black gelding) my other friend Daisy, (palomino mare) and I played a final game of tag. When we were done, we rolled in the grazed one last time in the lush green grass. When Steve came to take me in, I hugged my three friends, as this was the last time I'd see them (since they're at the back of the barn) since I'm going to my new home tomorrow....
